Zoot Sims’ solo on Mean To Me, from Basie and Zoot (1975), was the first solo that I ever transcribed. I was in high school – in 2002, and my band director (who is a jazz trombonist), recommended and explained the process of transcribing.
I finally committed it to paper in 2013, and published it on my old blog.
